5 Lies I Was Told About Content Monetisation

When I started creating content, everyone had advice. Most of it was wrong.

Here are the 5 biggest lies I was told -

Lie #1  "Just focus on growing followers"

I spent my first 3 months chasing followers.

Result? 2K followers but £0 in revenue.

The truth  

Followers don't pay bills. Systems do. One client paying £5K/month is worth more than 100K followers who never buy.


Lie #2 "Don't sell too early" "Build an audience first," they said. "Monetise later."

Biggest mistake ever.

The truth:

Start selling from day 1. My first £2K/mo came from an audience of just 2,500 followers. Because I had a clear offer and conversion system.

He dropped a comment. And I messaged him. That was it.


Lie #3 "Post every day or you'll fail"

I believed this.

Burned out trying to create daily content.

The truth Consistency beats frequency. 3 strategic posts per week that:

  • Show expertise

  • Address pain points

  • Have clear CTAs

This approach made me more money than daily random posts ever did.

I do 5 posts/week.

Saturdays and Sundays are off. As it should be.

Lie #4 "Give everything for free" "Just provide value," they said. "The money will come."

Wrong again.

The truth  Free content should lead to paid solutions.

Every piece of content should be part of your:

  • Lead generation

  • Nurture sequence

  • Sales pipeline

I made this shift and now have enough resources to run an agency with 11 people.

Lie #5  "You need a course to make money" The "passive income dream" trap. I wasted 3 months building a course nobody bought.

The truth  Start with high-ticket services. They're:

  • Easier to sell

  • More profitable

  • Better for learning what works

I made my first £10K from 1:1 client work in 3 months. No course needed.

Here's what actually works:-

  1. Clear Offer First - Know what you're selling before you create content.

  2. Strategic Content - Every post should attract your ideal client.

  3. Simple Systems - Have a way to convert attention into sales.

  4. High-Ticket Focus - Charge premium prices for premium results.

  5. Consistent Execution - Show up strategically, not just frequently.
